Community and Friendly Visiting

At MiCare, we don’t want anybody to be lonely. We organise friendly visitors for culturally and linguistically diverse Elders living in their own home or within aged care facilities.

Having a chat, in their native language, can make an enormous difference to somebody’s day.

MiCare offers volunteer friendly visits for the Elders within aged care facilities (Community Visitors Scheme – Residential) and also for Elders still living in their homes, who have Home Care packages (Community Visitors Scheme – Home Visiting) as well as those who do not have Home Care Packages.

Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and are carefully selected, screened and trained so they can be matched with the right clients who share their cultural heritage. Our program is state-wide and employs a unique and highly successful model of recruiting, matching, training, supporting and managing the volunteers.

The program sees volunteers visit regularly to play games, share arts and craft, share culturally relevant activities, go on outings, help Elders as they attend seniors clubs or social functions, as well as providing clients with information about ageing or accessing services, as required.
