Elder's store at Avondrust Lodge

MiCare is committed to Eden Alternative™ and believes in creating a vibrant community for our Elders in Aged Care. It focuses on relationships and empowering Elders to make their own decisions. The Eden Alternative™ reminds us that while loneliness, helplessness, and boredom can happen to any of us, these are more prevalent as we age as we are less able to leave our homes to go out into the community. As a resulting effort, we at our Avondrust Lodge have opened an Elder’s Shop that is run by Elders. Our Elders make clocks, knit different things, and make lots of different items that are sold at this store. All the proceeds go back to the Elders. Our Elders come together and discuss the stock for the store, come up with new ideas, and spend time making the stock. Working towards running this store takes away their feeling of helplessness and boredom.
