How to apply for government-funded Home Care

As we get older, our needs change, and it can become difficult to do things such as cleaning, gardening, and other general tasks. Everyone’s healthcare and lifestyle needs are different, but most people prefer to live independently for as long as possible. By providing extra assistance with personal care and everyday living, MiCare’s Home Care services support your changing needs throughout life. We come to you in your home to enable you to live enjoyably in the comfort of your own home and community.  It’s easy to arrange your Home Care services when you have all the information you need. Below is everything you need to know about getting started. At any stage, if you’d prefer some assistance, give us a call.

5 Steps to Government-Funded Home Care Services

Call us on 1300 064 064 to get started.

Step 1: Understand the funding options available to you

  • You can purchase services privately (no need to go through the steps, just give us a call)
  • You can obtain government funding, which will either partially or fully cover the costs for you
  • You can opt for a combination of both private and government-funded services

Step 2: Determine your eligibility for government funding

You will need to register with My Aged Care to receive government funding. My Aged Care is a government service and is not part of MiCare. Phone 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au to get started.

My Aged Care will ask you about your health and circumstances to determine whether you may be eligible for funding and an assessment. The type of assessment and funding you receive from My Aged Care will be determined based on your needs.

Note that the process of arranging to fund Veterans is slightly different. If you are a Veteran, you will need to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs instead, to be assessed by a Veterans Home Care assessment agency.

Tip: There can be a very long wait period for government-funded support, so it is best to get in touch as soon as possible.

Step 3: Choose MiCare as your Home Care Provider

During your assessment, you will be asked to choose a Care Provider for your services. You can change your Care Provider afterward if you wish. Although Care Providers may offer similar services, they are all different, and it’s important to choose one that’s right for you. There are many reasons to choose MiCare as your Care Provider, including:

  • Our commitment to person-first values and progressive approach to Aged Care
  • Our personalized care options are tailored to your individual needs and wants
  • Our ability to cater to your language and nationality with our culturally diverse services
  • Our qualified, experienced, compassionate, and reliable team members
  • Our clients say it best, read our reviews!

Step 4: Wait for funding approval

Once your needs have been assessed by My Aged Care, you may be approved for government funding. During this time, you will be added to a government waiting list until funds can be made available for you.

Remember to let us know if you’ve nominated us as your Care Provider. At MiCare, we closely watch for our new clients on the government waiting list so we can start their services as soon as the funds are approved.

You don’t have to wait for your funding to be approved before starting Home Care services at MiCare. We have the option for you to pay for services yourself during the waiting period so you can get the help you need right away.

Step 5: Get started!

Once your funding has been allocated, your funded Home Care services can start!

What kind of services are available?
