Is Home Support right for you?

The Home Support Program is designed for people who can manage everyday life within the community, providing they receive a small amount of assistance (either ongoing or short-term). People who access the Home Support Program generally only need 1-2 types of services to maintain their safety and independence.

You may benefit from our Home Support Program if you require:

  • Basic support at home, such as personal care or domestic help
  • Assistance to remain socially connected with your community
  • Help to find services that speak your language or understand your culture
  • Help to find safe and secure housing, if experiencing homelessness

If your needs are more complex, a Home Care Package may suit you better.

Are you eligible for the Home Support Program?

If you meet certain criteria, you may be eligible for funding that subsidizes your Home Support services. The first step to accessing funding is organizing an assessment with My Aged Care.

To qualify for an assessment, you must be aged:

  • 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people), or
  • 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and on a low income, homeless, or at risk of being homeless.

If you’re not eligible for an assessment, or you are waiting to be assessed, we can still help you with our Private Home Care services.

Our Home Support Services

  • General Home Support

As part of your Home Support Program, you may be supported by a couple of Home Care services. These services are specifically intended to support your safety and independence whilst living at home. The particular services that you access will depend on your individual care needs but may include things like basic personal care or domestic assistance, or safety-related home and garden maintenance.

  • Social Support Groups

Our Social Support Groups bring people together from same and different cultures to enjoy activities and companionship.

  • Diverse Needs Support

Our Access & Support Services assist people with diverse needs by making the Aged Care system more accessible.

  • Housing Assistance & Community Care

Our Care & Housing team supports people who are homeless or at risk of homeless by linking them with support services.

Testimonial

I would like to thank you and MiCare for giving me this opportunity to have a laptop to study the IT program as I will start the course soon. The course will be two days in the class face to face and two days online so it helps me saving time to study at home instead of going to the library.
