MiCare’s Avondurst Lodge has dedicated 12 fully furnished rooms for the Indian community in Victoria. At MiCare, we strongly believe that our Elders should feel at home where they live. Our Household Grevillia will be dedicated to Elders from the Indian community which means we will have Indian staff wherever possible and also have Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal options. The lifestyle team will have activities that will revolve around the Indian culture and celebrate Indian festivals with our Elders.
The Open Day was well attended by the President of Australia India Community Charitable Trust (AICCT) Mr. Vasan Srinivasan, Mr. Neerja Nanda, Editor- South Asia Times (SAT), Mr. Indrajit Jaisal — President, of Indian Senior Citizens Association among other dignitaries. The guests took a tour around the household and the facility as well.
The Indian-specific household is designed to help the Elders from the Indian community feel at home away from home. The home-like clusters for only 12 people with private dining and lounge areas help maintain relationships and recognize familiar faces. Our rotating menus change every four weeks and are seasonally adjusted so that the Elders never get bored with their options. We also actively involve Elders in menu planning, taking into consideration their likes, dislikes and preferences, and especially by adding culturally specific meals to the mix where we can, to remind Elders of their home country.
