MiCare has received funding for the Support for Carers Program in the Eastern and Southern regions from 2022. The Support for Carers Program recognizes the tireless work that people are providing to care for their family and friends and seeks to provide support to them in their caring role. MiCare has been supporting these unpaid carers in the Eastern and Southern regions of Metro Melbourne since July 2022. We organize group activities for carers to come together to support one another and provide in-home respite and community access to the care recipients.
On 26 April 2023, mothers from the Wantirna Carers Group who are caring for their children living with disability gathered at the Orana Neighbourhood House for a fun session of a cooking demonstration by Jean Silk. Everyone had fun learning to make some delicious Thai red curry, Thai fish cake, and fried rice. Amrit, our only vegetarian carer made her share of vegetarian tofu curry and fried rice. Everyone had a go at preparing and cooking the dishes. It was a relaxing session where carers come together to share their caring challenges and tips. We concluded the session with laughter and a full and satisfied stomach.
