Our staff in youth settlement recently held a multicultural youth camp at Mt Kooyoora as part of the Recreational Activity Days (RAD) group.
The trip was run by our friends at Doxa, in partnership with other members of the RAD group – Spectrum, Melbourne City Mission, Western Young People’s Independent Network (WYPIN), Maribyrnong Youth Services and Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.
The adventure went for three days and two nights. It involved hiking and camping at Mt Kooyoora.
Everyone including four workers from MiCare and our partner agencies, Spectrum and Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, and three outdoor education workers from Doxa, slept in tents, cooked food on camping stoves, and walked between camp sites to catch up with others. Each night we moved to a different area to set up camp.
Other activities included caving, hiking, learning how to navigate using maps, stars and the sun. We had nineteen bright young people from a range of different backgrounds attend the camp. Including those from Karen, Chin, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Somali, Vietnamese and Iraqi.
We’re all looking forward to our next outdoor adventure!
