MiCare Shines at VMC Excellence Awards

MiCare is proud to announce that it was recognised twice at the VMC Excellence Awards held in Melbourne on Wednesday 4 December 2024.

Richard Mendelsohn, Deputy Chair of MiCare, along with CEO, Penni Michael, and General Managers Despina Haralambopoulos, Tess McGrath and Warren Brewer, Education Co-Ordinator attended the ceremony held at Government House. Jacqueline Aungminn, Cultural Advisor in our Migrant Services team, received the Refugee Achievement Award for dedication and outstanding contribution to empowering multicultural communities through education, support and community-building initiatives. Jacqueline’s volunteer efforts along with her work both within MiCare and the community sector, have transformed lives, fostered inclusion, resilience and resulted in opportunities for marginalised groups so they can thrive and actively contribute to Australian society.

MiCare CEO, Penni Michael, was noted as saying, “We are very proud of Jacqueline’s achievements, and we congratulate her on receiving this truly well-deserved recognition”. MiCare were also recognised for their MiStaff initiative which received a Highly Commended Award from the Victorian Multicultural Commission. MiCare works with new migrants coming into Australia and aims to provide them with meaningful skills and connections. What made this initiative so exciting was that MiCare was able to work across all its programs and services to provide training, placing and secured employment for marginalised migrants who are excluded from the work force.

Richard Mendelsohn stated that “this is indeed a great achievement, and the award acknowledges the extensive work and support provided to our trainees from a few key staff within MiCare. This program demonstrates what can be achieved with exceptional commitment and dedication.”

Social Support Group

I attend the MiCare Social Support Group to connect with people, share a nice meal, and enjoy the company—I would truly miss it if I couldn’t attend. I look forward to the bus outings, as they give me the chance to socialise with others. The MiCare Social Support Group makes a big difference in my life. It gives me a reason to get up in the morning, stay active, and most importantly, have wonderful conversations with everyone. I chose MiCare after carefully considering different providers, and I’m very happy with my decision. My Home Care Package case manager at MiCare is always helpful and keeps in regular touch with me, which I really appreciate. I also enjoy living at MiCare Village in Carrum Downs, with the convenience of having the doctor and shops right next door.
