Approximately 200 young people and their families attended a vibrant Cultural Celebration held at the Wyndham Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing. This initiative served as an alternative to the previously postponed Harmony Day, undertaken as a gesture of respect for the Muslim community observing Ramadan.
The event commenced with a formal opening by a Wyndham Councillor, followed by a traditional Smoking Ceremony led by a Bunurong Council Elder. The celebration featured a diverse range of cultural performances, musical presentations, and an energetic multicultural runway showcasing enthusiastic participation from numerous young individuals.
An informative Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) awareness stall was hosted collaboratively by the Wyndham Ambassadors for Multicultural Youth and placement students from the Laverton Youth Foundation. The stall effectively engaged attendees through interactive question-and-answer sessions and the distribution of information.
The successful event was a collaborative effort between MiCare and its valued partners: Wyndham Youth Services, Laverton Youth Foundation, and Werribee Football Club.
