Ekka Day Celebration at Prins Willem Alexander Lodge

Ekka Day Celebration at Prins Willem Alexander Lodge

The Ekka (i.e. Royal Brisbane Show) is a major event in Brisbane, drawing crowds from all over. At Prins Willem Alexander Lodge, we captured the vibrant spirit of the Ekka with a day full of fun activities. For morning tea, we served the iconic strawberry sundaes, a beloved Ekka tradition, and added an extra treat by dipping them in our chocolate fountain.

Ponies, adorned with tassels and plaited manes, were the stars of the day, greeting everyone in the Amalia courtyard before visiting Elders in all the homes. The guinea pigs also had a special treat, munching on fresh greens from our vegetable garden.

A country music band set up among hay bales, creating a festive atmosphere, and soon enough, the line dancers, led by our volunteers, joined in the fun. The day was rounded off with market stalls selling homemade crafts and a cake stall featuring delicious creations proudly made by our Elders. It was a day filled with joy and community, truly embodying the essence of the Ekka!

Social Support Group

I attend the MiCare Social Support Group to connect with people, share a nice meal, and enjoy the company—I would truly miss it if I couldn’t attend. I look forward to the bus outings, as they give me the chance to socialise with others. The MiCare Social Support Group makes a big difference in my life. It gives me a reason to get up in the morning, stay active, and most importantly, have wonderful conversations with everyone. I chose MiCare after carefully considering different providers, and I’m very happy with my decision. My Home Care Package case manager at MiCare is always helpful and keeps in regular touch with me, which I really appreciate. I also enjoy living at MiCare Village in Carrum Downs, with the convenience of having the doctor and shops right next door.

The new friends I have made, in both Elders and staff, has made it easier for me in my new home. The staff are such beautiful people; I feel very lucky.
